Saturday was a beautiful day to celebrate ECOLIFE Foundation and Earth Month by taking a relaxing nature walk through Mission Trails. Several members met early at 8:00am and before our walk learned a bit more about our featured non profit ECOLIFE Foundation. Their mission is to provide ecologically sustainable water, food, and shelter to communities through education applied programs. ECOLIFE Foundation solves natural resource issues using science, education, and strategic partnerships.
Allow me to share a little about one of the many programs ECOLIFE is a part of. ECOLIFE Foundation has implemented a community-based conservation project that protects monarch butterfly habitat and directly improves the quality of life for communities within and surrounding Central México’s Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve (MBBR). Since 2004, the ECOLIFE Foundation has been building fuel-efficient Patsari stoves and planting trees in the communities in and around the butterfly forests. Over 500 stoves have been installed and over 30,000 trees have been planted.
For every dollar, ECOLIFE Foundation plants and maintains a tree. These trees provide an alternative fuel and timber source for the indigenous people, while allowing the Oyamel forests to remain intact. With every $120 donation, ECOLIFE Foundation builds and installs a highly efficient wood burning Patsari stove for use in the homes of the Ejido communities. Planting milkweed in your own garden can also help traveling monarch butterflies as they migrate from Canada to Mexico every year.
For those that were able to make the nature walk we were given a package of milkweed seeds to plant, if you would like, to help with the Monarch Butterfly population. If you were not able to make the walk and would still like to support the work being done please make a donation directly to ECOLIFE Foundation.
Thank you to all those that gave of their time to raise awareness for ECOLIFE Foundation through our nature walk and I look forward to sharing more regarding the work being done by ECOLIFE Foundation in the future.
Together we can make a difference.
Thank you so much for the wonderful nature walk! It was great to meet new people and discover a new “paradise” right here in our own San Diego backyard.
